Welcome
to page three of Hand to Hand. This
score is one linking up with many across the world; highlighting the
messages of Sarasota's children, young people and others in our expanding
community. The
messages of the heart that are shared here are timeless and need to
be heeded by those in a position of leadership; it is a vision that
longs to stem such violence as occurred in New York and Washington on
September 11, 2001 . . . and
every where else on Earth.

In
a perfect world, people would live like a rainbow. By themselves each
color shines brightly and separately. But put together a rainbow is
boundless, breathtaking and celestial. After every storm, if you look
hard enough, a rainbow appears.

At
this critical time, of national and global challenge, we are being called
upon to move to a deeper level of consciousness, a consciousness of
oneness. May we open our hearts of love to honor the diversity among
all people. The peace we seek can only come as we each find it within
ourselves. Unity of Sarasota Rev.

Peace
to me means coming together. Showing that just because your skin color
or your beliefs are different, you and many other people can be friends
and do things TOGETHER! Peace also makes me think of people from all
colors uniting as one.

I believe that before military force is used, dialogue and
action with those whose cause is being used as the reason for these
cruel acts, MIGHT lead us on a path which could heal the wounds, and
correct the injustices which have led these people to commit these atrocious
acts. Hate destroys reason and rationality. Hate just breeds more hate.
The hurt and pain can only be alleviated by taking out that hurt and
pain on others. "Justice?" Is that the reason behind these acts? - I
feel that we are such a big country, with such big ideas, purposes,
goals, needs and desires, that the little people of the world have been
lost in crush to fulfill these goals. We have become insensitive to
others need. I guess we are seen as the big bully of the world, although,
we certainly haven't done to people what Russia has done in Chechnya.
I only hope that some greater good comes out of all this. Maybe it will
teach the world a lesson that we are all one and equal, and brothers
who need to take care of each other.
I pray and hope. With love, Charles Roth

Personally, I have been wrestling with conflicted feelings
ever since last Tuesday. I believe it would be unethical and ineffective
for us to go bomb someone just to make us feel better. It makes no sense
on any level. However, I am not a pacifist. I think there is a time when
one has to fight and do things that one would much rather not do. Every
act of violence and oppression feels far more personal now that I'm a
parent. I know that there mothers in Afghanistan today are terrified for
their children because of what the United States might do. I can't tell
you how my heart aches for them and I pray for their safety and that of
their families. But there is a difference between the innocent and the
guilty. And I don't want those who are guilty of last weeks atrocities
to be free to kill any one else's children. Maybe an unexpected side effect
of the horror is that we are all working extra hard at listening to each
other. I hope it lasts. With respect and
appreciation, Susan Kohm

To
me peace means love and appreciation of other people. Peace, I guess,
means to be happy and joyful. On holidays it's better to give than to
receive and you should also be very glad, and your heart will feel good,
for doing something good for other people.

I
am asking you to join me to form a "circle of heart" to hold the peace
in the face of terror, to stand undefiled in the clarity of a greater
truth. This does not mean to condone the events or to deny the sadness,
but rather, not to get swallowed by fear and anger. There will be enough
of that and it will need to be balanced by its polar opposite. Let your
spirit sing with harmony, your voice be clear in integrity and your heart
be a chalice of peace. In Grace, Reverend

Peace
is power! The power to cure disease, poverty and unhappiness. Peace
makes all this possible. Why? The reason is with all of our nations
working together we can solve almost any problem. That is peace!

The thing that so saddens me is that America
and Americans are missing the gift of PURE LOVE from the rest of the world
- literally as part of the family of humanity - because they are not being
told of it through media. What WE are being given is hard nosed facts
and actions and NOT the huge heartbreaking world wide tragedy that this
is and that we must cry, weep, scream and yell for and about so it does
NOT happen again.... not by blowing the Arabs to hell but by finding NEW
ways to work and live together. It is nothing less than the challenge
of our New Millennium. If we just bomb and kill our hurt out we will keep
the cycle going as it has been for so long. The world is now literally
in the New Age. It was baptized in blood, horror and shock and we must
.... we MUST find a way to stop it everywhere. Thomas

It's not that we should forget it
and pretend it didn't happen now, at this moment. It did, and it is a
reflection of how feelings of hatred, fanaticism, dogma can be destructive.
It also calls this country not to turn its back on the necessity of creating
agreement, cooperation, peace efforts, and synergy out of conflict.
A great big hug to all of you! Helena Baronheid

Never before have I been given a more
powerful opportunity on deciding where I am deliberately going to place
my attention. Never before have I had a more powerful opportunity in being
able to decide how I'm going to label an event. Never before have I had
such an opportunity to notice that going into react mode is a response
and a choice I have dominion over. I'm in awe and appreciation of the
power of the creator of this creation we're experiencing today and recognize
that within human consciousness there exists the same magnitude of power
to be utilized for constructive acts as well as destructive. Where
shall we begin? Carolyn

Peace
means that everyone in the world lives together and gets along. Also
that humans and animals live together in harmony. If peace was everywhere
there would be no violence and everyone worked together to help others.
If there were peace in this world the world would be almost perfect.
I think peace is a great thing!

How
does one make sense of the September 11th devastation of lives that fell
to fanatical fires, crushed steel and concrete? While lighting candles
and sending prayers of love and healing, I sought some truth that might
lie behind the threatening darkness. A groundswell of unity is growing
from this twisted tragedy, a unity of purpose to flush out destructive
forces and encourage peace in the world. Out of the darkness of destruction
a miracle is growing. I now light my candles for a united world peace
that can blossom from the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

On
September 11, the unthinkable happened. What had seemed possible only
in Fiction, suddenly, brutally became our Reality. It has plunged many
of us into despair and has opened us to suffering and pain, perhaps as
never before. That pain will be in vain if we do not accompany it with
a spiritual renewal and hope. Our lives will never be the same as we move
forward into a suddenly less-certain Future. We urge everyone to spend
at least 15 minutes in silent meditation and prayer daily, to seek guidance.

With
peace people could believe in their own religion and would get along and
they wouldn't steal. People wouldn't trash the earth and they wouldn't
have wars. Peace means to me that there wouldn't be smoke coming from
tall or small buildings or big and small trucks. Instead of roads there
would be green grass and instead of cars and trucks there would be bicycles.
There would be happy people and no polluting so that animals can live
safe in their homes and that boats wouldn't have propellers so that sea
animals wouldn't get hurt. That's what peace means to me.

Blessings
to you. We invite you to do what you can to remain calm and out of useless
fear. This affirmation has been helpful: Today, although I am aware of
great suffering and fear destroying like wildfire around me, I remain
calm, knowing that I am safe and that my safety creates a haven for others.
